LESART

LESART

Was bleibt, wenn Nachrichten verblassen?

READING  | LESART

A large-scale work. Its foundation consists of newspaper clippings and book pages, layered with acrylic paint, varnish, graphite, and oil pastels.

Bold, gestural black lines intersect with—at times—historical text fragments.

A work about reading between the lines.

In *Lesart* (Reading), time and text overlap.

Across a surface of newspaper—featuring everything from Fraktur (blackletter) typefaces to modern print—a free, black, linear form traces its path: creativity and freedom prevailing over censorship.

Global in scope. Stacks of paper, suspended from weathered wire, partially obstruct the view—an act of concealment, a masking; a crumpled, three-dimensional object—a folded silence held within the image.

Accents of red, trailing streaks of color, and fragmented words—such as "POP," "FREEDOM OF THE PRESS," and "CENSORED"—interrupt the surface.

A work concerning information, censorship, and interpretation.

It explores how meaning is constructed and how it subsequently disintegrates.

Archaic, yet profoundly contemporary.

What remains when news fades away? *Lesart* is a palimpsest. Layers of paper, pigment, rust, and light speak of past discourses.

At its center, a gestural, almost calligraphic figure moves through strata of text, in search of meaning.

The piece engages with the concept of press freedom and its boundaries.

It allows words to emerge and vanish, rendering censorship symbolically visible—as a void, an overpainting, a tear, or an indistinct blur.

Rough and vulnerable in its materiality, yet masterful and light in its composition, *Lesart* serves as an invitation to look more closely.
